Training for Vehicle-Mounted Cranes
A Vehicle Mounted Crane is attached to a specialist vehicle, which combines a truck chassis with a hydraulically operated crane. These are designed to fold away when not in-use but can be deployed when required to extend and lift for loading or unloading the vehicle.

Premises Requirements
- Vehicle-mounted crane in good working order and safe condition.
- A training room to carry out the classroom-based theory elements of the course.
- An area of approximately 30sqm to operate the crane, to conduct practical lessons and assessments.
- Loads to lift, move & stack.
- Loads that can be stacked at ground level and onto or off the lorry or trailer which is used to transport it.
Course Requirements
Information on minimum training requirements for a vehicle-mounted crane course is below:
- Novice: For candidates who have no experience of operating this type of lift truck.
- Experienced: For candidates with practical experience but no formal initial training (not listed on the NORS register).
- Refresher: For candidates requiring re-certification following expiry of their current certificate (already listed on the NORS register).
Conversion: For candidates who have certification on one machine, that need to be trained, tested and certified on a different machine.
